MarketPrice Private Beta & Coldplay promotion!

The MarketPrice private beta is live! To be totally honest, it’s been live for about the last month and we’ve been fixing niggling issues here and there. It’s amazing how many small problems we come across every day, and being the perfectionists that we are, how much time we devote to fixing them. The plan was to invite our friends & family for a private beta test as soon as the site was live, but we didn’t end up being comfortable with the state of it until about three weeks later. So here we are!

What is MarketPrice anyway?

MarketPrice is New Zealand’s ticket exchange - you can buy and sell concert tickets, sports tickets and other event tickets in a well-organised, fair and safe way. Broadly speaking, we are like an auction site, but don’t tell anyone we said that! We let users buy & sell tickets on the site, but that’s where the similarity ends. Because we do more work for you and organise our site better, we:

  • Pre-fabricate listings (Markets), including the description and photo. Traders are left to simply find their Market and list a price!
  • Let all buyers and sellers of the same kind of item trade openly on the same page, in a single Market
  • Determine a fair market price as a guide to buyers and sellers
  • Provide a less cluttered, more intuitive marketplace

There’s more information in our About MarketPrice page.

MarketPrice is now in a private beta period until April 30 2009. During beta, all trades on the site are fictional (except the Coldplay promo - read more below). It’s a sandpit for our testers to play in without being restricted by legal obligations. The site is open to public viewing, but registrations are by invitation only.  We are keeping access restricted to give us a good chance to break-in the server and fix any issues without affecting real trades. We’d like to hear all your feedback, so talk to one of us directly, or contact us through MarketPrice.

Did you say Coldplay?
As part of the MarketPrice beta test, we have been running a Coldplay promotion. Our testers got the chance to ask themselves ‘How much would I pay to see Coldplay live?’ - being our friends & family, some of the answers stunned and surprised us. However the less obscene ones made it on the site in the form of ‘Wanted’ listings for the Coldplay concert ticket Markets here and here. The promo comes to an end at 10pm Thursday 12 March, when we will sell the 2x double passes to the highest Wanted price - even if it is just $40!

Truly yours
